Day 92 of 365

The Grace to Give Grace

Matthew 18:21-22

Matthew 18:21-22

“Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'”

Insight

Jesus' answer to Peter's question reveals the heart of forgiveness - it's unlimited. Why? Because we've received unlimited forgiveness from God. The parable Jesus tells next shows a servant forgiven an unpayable debt who refuses to forgive a small debt. That's us when we withhold grace. You've been forgiven much. Extend that same grace to others. Seventy-seven times means keep forgiving.

Reflection

Who keeps disappointing you? How many times have you forgiven them? How does remembering your own forgiveness change your willingness to forgive them again?
