Day 187 of 365

The Danger of Partial Obedience

1 Samuel 15:22

1 Samuel 15:22

“But Samuel replied: 'Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.'”

Insight

Partial obedience is disobedience. King Saul partially obeyed God's command, then tried to cover his disobedience with sacrifice. God wasn't impressed. He doesn't want your religious activity if you won't obey His specific instructions. Obedience is better than sacrifice. This means God values your immediate, complete obedience more than your impressive spiritual acts. Don't try to substitute good things for the one thing God told you to do. Full obedience, nothing less.

Reflection

Where are you partially obeying God, doing something good to avoid doing what He specifically asked? What's your next step toward full obedience?
