Day 107 of 365

Submitting to Authority

1 Peter 2:13-14

1 Peter 2:13-14

“Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.”

Insight

Submission to authority is difficult, especially when you disagree with those in charge. But Peter says submit for the Lord's sake. This isn't about leaders being perfect; it's about honoring the position God established. Submission doesn't mean blind obedience to evil. When authority commands sin, obey God. But when it's simply preferences or policies you dislike, honor the authority. Your submission to earthly authority reflects your submission to God.

Reflection

What authority figure do you struggle to submit to? How does viewing submission as obedience to God (not the person) change your perspective?
