Day 82 of 365
The Ministry of Listening
James 1:19
James 1:19
“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
Reflection
In a world full of noise, listening is a rare gift. Everyone wants to be heard; few want to listen. But listening is ministry. When you truly listen - not just waiting for your turn to talk, but genuinely hearing someone - you're showing them they matter. Listening requires humility (admitting you don't know everything), patience (not interrupting), and love (caring about their experience). Most people don't need your advice; they need your attention. Put down your phone. Make eye contact. Ask questions. Let them finish. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can offer is simply listening without trying to fix, correct, or teach. Today, practice the ministry of listening. Have a conversation where your goal is to understand, not to respond. Listen fully. You'll be amazed how it blesses both them and you.
