Day 74 of 365
Honoring Your Parents
Exodus 20:12
Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Reflection
Honoring parents doesn't mean they were perfect. It means respecting the position God gave them, regardless of performance. Maybe your parents failed you. Maybe they weren't who you needed. You can acknowledge hurt while still choosing honor. Honoring doesn't require agreeing with them or enabling bad behavior. It means speaking respectfully, setting healthy boundaries, and not slandering them. It's treating them with dignity even when it's hard. If they weren't there for you, you can still break cycles, forgive freely, and choose to honor. If they were great, express gratitude. Call them. Thank them. Serve them as they age. God attaches blessing to this command. Today, how can you honor your parents? Maybe it's a phone call, a letter of gratitude, forgiveness extended, or simply praying for them.
