Day 74 of 365

The Fifth Commandment

Ephesians 6:2-3

Ephesians 6:2-3

“'Honor your father and mother'—which is the first commandment with a promise—'so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.'”

Insight

Honoring parents doesn't require agreeing with them or excusing their failures. It means treating them with respect because of the position God gave them. Even if they weren't who you needed, you can still honor their role while setting healthy boundaries. God attaches blessing to this command - not manipulation but principle. When you honor authority, you position yourself for blessing.

Reflection

How are you honoring (or dishonoring) your parents? What does honor look like in your specific situation - gratitude, forgiveness, service, boundaries?
