Day 209 of 365

The Cost of Discipleship

Luke 14:27

Luke 14:27

“And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.”

Insight

Following Jesus costs something. He doesn't promise comfort, wealth, or ease—He promises a cross. Carrying your cross means dying to yourself daily, surrendering your will for His, following even when it's costly. This isn't casual Christianity. It's radical discipleship. Jesus doesn't want admirers who like His teachings—He wants disciples who obey them. Count the cost. Following Jesus will cost you something, but it's worth everything. You can't be His disciple without carrying your cross.

Reflection

What is Jesus asking you to surrender that you're refusing? What's the cost of following Him that you're not willing to pay?
